Grand Valley Power Accepting Applications for Youth Tour, Camp

GVP TO SEND STUDENTS TO SUMMER LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – (Nov. 15, 2023)

High school juniors and seniors who get their electricity from Grand Valley Power can apply to attend an all-expense paid leadership trip to either Washington, D.C. or the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp next summer. These programs provide young, local leaders a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

  • Washington, D.C. Youth Tour – An all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 17-23, 2024.
  • Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp – An all-expense paid trip to the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp at the Glen Eden Resort near Steamboat Springs, Colorado, July 13-18, 2024.

The application is open to current high school students who will be at least 16 years of age by the trip/camp selected and whose parents or legal guardians are members of Grand Valley Power. Students are required to submit a 500-word essay and completed application. The Application is online at gvp.org and must be submitted by January 8, 2024.

The students that attend the Youth Tour learn about co-ops, engage in one-on-one conversations with elected officials, visit major monuments and memorials, and network with their peers. More than 1,800 students from all over the country attend this week-long tour.

Students who attend the Leadership Camp learn about the electric utility industry and how cooperatives work. Students also raft down the Colorado River, ride the Steamboat Springs gondola, and visit the Trapper Mine. Nearly 100 students from Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming and Oklahoma gather for six days at the Glen Eden Resort near Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Visit the Grand Valley Power website to apply and for more information about program requirements and eligibility: gvp.org/youth-leadership-programs.
