GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - (August 28, 2018) – When the Pedal the Plains bicycle tour brings hundreds of bicyclists to Colorado’s Eastern Plains September 14-16, Colorado’s electric cooperatives will be there. The three-day tour, promoted by Gov. John Hickenlooper in partnership with The Denver Post, will celebrate the area’s agricultural roots and frontier heritage.
Grand Valley Power is among the electric co-ops and partners who are helping sponsor this one-of-a-kind cycling event, which will make its way through electric co-op territory in Limon, Bennett and Kiowa.
The electric co-ops, which have been providing electric power to these plains for almost 75 years, are also sponsoring a Powering the Plains team of cyclists who will ride to raise money for Energy Outreach Colorado. EOC is a non-profit organization that helps struggling Colorado families pay their electric bills. The team includes employees, friends and family of Colorado cooperatives across the state including Grand Junction’s own, Gregg Kampf, from Hoskin Farina and Kampf.
There will also be more information on Grand Valley Power and Colorado’s other electric cooperatives during the exhibitions in the host towns.
Help the co-ops and their Powering the Plains team raise money to keep Coloradans warm this winter by visiting www.poweringtheplains.coop. There you will find a link to a form you can fill out and send in with your tax-deductible donation.
Along with Grand Valley Power, sponsors for Colorado’s Electric Cooperatives include: the Colorado Rural Electric Association, Colorado Country Lifeand Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association and several other local electric co-ops.
