GRAND JUNCTION, CO. – (November 1, 2019) ---   Grand Valley Power is sponsoring three high school juniors or seniors to attend the annual Washington, D.C. Youth Tour or the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp during next summer break. This is a great opportunity for local, young leaders to experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

  • Washington, D.C. Youth Tour – One (1) all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. June 18-25 2020.
  • Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp – Two (2) all-expense paid trips to the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp at the Glen Eden Resort, Colorado, July 11-16, 2020.

Applications are open to all current high school students who will be at least 16 years of age by the trip/camp selected, and to whose parents or legal guardians are members of Grand Valley Power. Students are required to submit a 500-word essay and completed application. Applications can be found online or at high school counseling offices. Completed applications must be returned by January 14, 2020.

Students attending the Youth Tour will learn about co-ops, engage in one-on-one conversations with elected officials visit many of the major monuments and memorials and network with their peers. More than 1,800 students from all over the country attend this week-long tour.

Students attending the Leadership Camp will learn about the issues surrounding the electric industry, how cooperatives work, raft down the Colorado River, ride the Steamboat Springs gondola and visit the Trapper Mine.   Nearly 100 students from Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming and Oklahoma gather for six days at the Glen Eden Resort, near Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

You can visit our website for more information about the requirements, eligibility and application at gvp.org/youth-leadership-programs.
